Howard W. Churchwell, age 71, of Carmi, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2012, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. He was born October 26, 1941, in Carmi, the son of Howard B. and Sarah (Swindle) Churchwell. Howard married Janet Erwin on June 2, 1961 at the East Side Baptist Mission in Carmi and she survives.
He was a police officer for a short time, then worked at Whirlpool as a Maintenance Supervisor before he retired. He had attended First Baptist Church, and then became a member of Crossroads Bible Church. Howard was truly loved by his wife and family and will be deeply missed. In addition to being a wonderful husband and father, Howard was an avid fisherman, gardener, and civil war and history enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Stacey Churchwell and Timothy M. and Christy Churchwell; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Joyce King,and Shirley and Lee Raley, all of Henderson, KY; and Peggy and George Aborn of Grayville; his little buddy and nephew, Cameron Bruns; and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm, Thursday, November 1, 2012, at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until the time of service in the funeral home chapel. Chaplain Mike Fields will officiate. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
