Henry Brakie , 81 of Mt. Vernon died Wed. evening, Oct. 1, 2008 at his residence. He was born on Jan. 9, 1927 in Evansville, son of George and Rosa (Knowles) Brakie, who preceded him in death. Henry married Madilene Anderson on May 7, 1946 in California and she preceded him in death on Nov. 22, 2003. Henry was also preceded in death by one son, Mark Anthony, one grandson, Ryan Potter, and one sister, Mildred Rowe.

Henry retired from the Mt. Vernon Police Dept. after serving as Chief of Police and patrolman. He next retired from CF Industries. Henry was a past member of the FOP and VFW and served in the US Navy during WWII. He was an active member of the Church of God Mission where he taught Sunday School. Henry was an avid fisherman, a hobby he enjoyed up to the time of his death. Henry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and enjoyed his family immensely.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Debbie Brakie of Evansville and Richard and Janice Brakie of New Harmony; four daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Myrl Potter and Robin and David Smith, all of Mt. Vernon, LuAnn and Paul Pearce and Anita and Ed Long, all of Evansville; twelve grandchildren and their spouses, Wendy, Chris, Kevin and Lori Brakie, Tammy and Ted Rynder, Mark and Stephanie Potter, Matt, John, Greg and Aimee Pearce, Amy and Stephanie Reitz, Shelley and Johnny Hargrove and Craig Cochran; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother and sister-in-law, George and Bertha Brakie.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Sat., Oct. 4, 2008 at the Austin Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Fri., Oct. 3, 2008 at the funeral home and before the funeral service on Sat. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Mt.
