Helen Sailer

July 24, 1923 — June 11, 2017

Helen L. (Garrison) Sailer, 93, of Carmi, passed away at 5:36 p.m., Sunday, June 11, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN surrounded by her family. She was born July 24, 1923 in Dahlgren, IL , the daughter of David and Mena (Geiger) Garrison. Helen married Allen George Sailer on September 4, 1949.  She was a 1941 graduate of Dahlgren High School. She went on to attend Southern Illinois University graduating in 1946. Helen was a substitute teacher and a housewife. She was active in the sewing club, home extension and a 50 year member of 4-H where she had served as a 4-H judge and leader of Hawthorne Future Homemakers. Helen was a member the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Carmi.

Helen is survived by her husband of 67 years, Allen Sailer;  son, Jack (Gina) Sailer of Carmi; daughter, Jan Bryant of Liberty, MO; son-in-law, John Keil of Newburgh, IN; sister, Laura "Kate" Whipple of Belle Rive, IL; seven grandchildren, Sarah (Aaron) Hoskins, Lesley (Greg) Comer, Luke Sailer, Chase (Hannah Gowdy) Sailer, Jill (Brett) Loxterman, Beth (Jeff) Studebaker and Kati (Chris) Inlow; eight great-grandchildren, Noah and Levi Hoskins, Ellie and Reid Comer, Theron and Hunter Loxterman and Griffin and Tucker Studebaker and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lou Keil, sister, Aleta Hanks, son-in-law, Ron Bryant, and infant twin grandsons.

Funeral services for Helen Sailer, 93, of Carmi, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Carmi with Rev. Tim Collins and Pastor Scott Baird officiating. Burial will be in Big Prairie Cemetery in Carmi. Visitation will be at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:00 a.m. at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made in Helen's memory to Emmanuel United Methodist Church and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
