On July 2, 2004, Helen “Joyce†Adams of Mt. Vernon, Indiana lost her long battle with cancer and rejoined the man she loved, her husband Ronald L. Adams who had left this life on July 26, 2002. She leaves a large and loving family who will love her and miss her as long as any one of us lives: her mother, Helen Frances Allen, widow of Floyd W. Allen of Norris City, Illinois, her daughter Dona Joyce Bergman of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, her son Ronald Lawrence and his wife Melora Shultz Adams of New Harmony, Indiana, grandchildren Kristin Joyce Bergman, Sean Thomas Bergman and Alexandra Ann Adams, sister Patsy Jean and husband Larry Anderson of Norris City, sister Floy Beth Singleton and husband Dale of Robinson Illinois, brother Donald Floyd and wife Dinah Allen of Norris City. Her husband’s family: parents Jay and Jeanette Adams of Norris City, Leon Adams of Norris City, Carol and husband Chet Cole of Norris City, Keith Adams of Norris City, Brent and wife Pam Adams of Carmi, Illinois, Randy and wife Janet Adams of Carmi and twenty five nieces and nephews.
Joyce had worked at Hook’s Pharmacy (now CVS) in Mt. Vernon, had served on the Board of Directors of the Posey County Chapter of the American Cancer Society and as the American Cancer Society’s Posey County Road to Recovery Coordinator. She was an outgoing and creative woman, enjoying sewing, crafts, and flower gardening. The center of her life was her family: her parents, sisters, brother and in-laws, her children and especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her heart.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 7, at the Albion Cumberland Presbyterian Church in rural Norris City, IL
Visitation will be at Austin Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Indiana on Tuesday, July 6, from 4PM until 8PM and at the church from Noon until service time on Wednesday. Burial will follow in the church cemetery
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. Most of all, her family asks that those who read this obituary take a few moments of each day of the rest of their lives to love and cherish their own loved ones.
