Hattie Randolph Travelstead, formerly of Carmi, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2017, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg, South Carolina. From a family of five brothers and four sisters, she was born September 8, 1921, in rural White County near Mill Shoals, the daughter of William and Elva (Johnson) Randolph. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings, and a granddaughter, Jennifer Michelle Travelstead.

While employed at the L. Haas store in Carmi, Hattie caught the eye of Leslie Travelstead, and they were married September 1, 1941. After Les returned from the South Pacific in World War II, they set up housekeeping and raised three children; Michael (Nancy Kern) of Macedonia, IL, Edison of Nashville, TN and Becky (Tom) Blackwell of Simpsonville, SC., who survive. Later, Hattie would be an able assistant as bookkeeper of their insurance agency.

Also surviving are four grandchildren; Julia Travelstead (Greg) Epplin, Dane Travelstead, Canon Blackwell, and Jason Blackwell. They have added much joy to Hattie's life, as have her two great-grandchildren; Jenna Epplin and Scott Epplin. Being able to attend Scott's marriage to Sarah Patrick in West Jefferson, NC this past June was a special delight for her.

After becoming a widow at age 61, Hattie devoted her time as a caregiver for both the elderly and the young. Known to those who love her as a great cook with a gift of hospitality, she will be remembered by family, nieces, cousins, and friends for her devotion to God, sweet spirit, and unforgettable cookies.

Graveside funeral services for Hattie Randolph Travelstead will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017 at Liberty Ridlen Cemetery in Macedonia, IL. Visitation will be at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Hattie's memory to your favorite charity and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi who is in charge of arrangements.
