Gregory Childers

Gregory L. "Wahoo" Childers, 66, of Carmi passed away at 10:55 a.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Chicago, IL on April 27, 1949 the son of Leonard L. and Maude Nadine (Pool) Childers. He married Janet L. Frizzell on November 24, 1983. Gregory owned and operated Triangle Wholesale and later was a truck driver. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carmi, the Carmi American Legion Post #224, and the Carmi Elks Lodge #1652.

Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Janet; a daughter, Courtney Lyn Childers of Lake Wales, FL; two grandchildren, Chayton Childers and Emma Mae Wiggins-Childers; a sister, Gina Witherspoon of Melissa, TX; and a sister-in-law, Linda Kekow of Mound City, IL.

Funeral Services for Gregory L. "Wahoo" Childers, 66 of Carmi will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Deacon Archie Bowers officiating. Burial will be in Melrose Cemetery in Carmi with military rites by the Carmi American Legion Post #224 and VFW Post #3851. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with expenses and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
