Glenard Holtzclaw

Glenard "Sarge" Holtzclaw, 92, of Carmi, passed away at 11:19 p.m., Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at his residence. He was born in Carmi, on October 11, 1925 the son of Raymond and Lorena (McCarty) Holtzclaw, Sarge married Mary Doris Smith whom he was married to for 39 years. He later married Mary Catherine "Danelle" Pennington on February 14, 1986 and she preceded him in death on June 16, 2017. He was a 25 year U.S. Army veteran serving during three wars, World War II, Korea and two tours in Vietnam.

Sarge is survived by three daughters, Sharon (Robert) Nichols, of Westfield, IN, Jan Rodgers, of Indianapolis, IN and Glenda Jackson, of Dix, IL; two step-daughters, Rosemary (Jack) Aud, of Carmi and Becky (Scott) Flowers, of Holland, MI; step-son, Harold "Corkie" (Brenda) Pennington, of Carmi; mother of his children, Mary Doris Holtzclaw, of Indianapolis, IN; brother, Charles Holtzclaw, of MA; 11 grandchildren, Robin Clark, Doris Wainwright, Michael Nichols, Darryl Holtzclaw, Kelly Higgins, Randy Minnerup, Christopher Minnerup, Shelly Brown, Robert Maxfield, Melissa Haycraft and Kenny Jackson; 3 step-grandchildren, Jackie Flechs, Cody Flowers and Kendra Pennington; 29 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lorena Holtzclaw,  his wife, Danelle, daughter, Nancy Minnerup, brother, Danny Holtzclaw, sister, Susie Evans, two grandchildren, Barbara Poling and Kevin Minnerup and two step-grandchildren, John Aud and Zachary Flowers.

Funeral services for Glenard "Sarge" Holtzclaw, 92, of Carmi, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 19, 2018 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be in Kuykendall Cemetery in Carmi with military rites by Carmi VFW and the American Legion. Visitation will be on Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made in Sarge's memory to the Carmi American Legion or the Carmi VFW and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
