Gilbert J. “Gib” Lumb, 82, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. He was born April 12, 1931, the son of Robert L. and Hester (Bryant) Lumb in Carmi IL. He married the mother of his children, Etta Russell in 1952 and they later divorced.

He owned the Marathon Station in Carmi, was an instructor at the Vocational Center in Centerville, worked at Rice Motor Co. for 20 years, was a substitute teacher until just a few years ago. A four year U.S. Navy veteran , he served in Korea.and was a member of the Carmi American Legion and VFW.

Gib was preceded in death by his parents; son Terry Lumb; sister, Peggy Fuhrer; and brother, Darrel Lumb.

He is survived by two daughters , Karen (Scot) Weiss of Enfield and Sandra (Keith) Lumb-Johnson of Carmi; brother , Dale (Jeanette) Lumb of Decatur, IL; six grandchildren; Joshua (Amber) Haley, Farrah Taylor, Courtney (Matt) McArthy, Whitney (Lincoln) Hobbs, and Caleb and Caite Weiss; seven great grandchildren, Kendall and Noah Haley, Raymyn Brewer, Mattie and Macie McArthy, and Mallory and Mason Hobbs; daughter-in-law, Lisa Lumb; nieces Lisa, Robbie, Paula, Donna and Patricia; special friend, Betty Brinkley; and companions, Max and Skittles.

Funeral services for Gilbert J. “Gib” Lumb will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014, at 1:00 pm at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi. Visitation will be held from 11 am until the time of service. Burial will be at Kuykendall Cemetery in Carmi with military rites conducted by the Carmi American Legion and VFW.
