Gilbert Frier

Gilbert (Gib) Frier, 90, of Carmi, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 6:05 p.m. at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, IN. Gib was born in Shawneetown, IL on January 2, 1925, the son of Richard and Maggie (Blair) Frier. He was an active member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Carmi American Legion and V.F.W. and a former member of the Carmi Lion's Club. Gib enjoyed fishing, playing pool, going dancing and visiting friends.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Norma Jean; a daughter, Sharon (Jim) Poshard of Danville; a son, Gib (Kathy) Frier of New Berlin; five granddaughters, Shannon (Ken) Mendonca, Vicki (Eddie) Carter, Bethany Poshard, Andrea (Erik) McCubbin and Jessica (Erik) Sanders; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry (Wanda) Frier of Harrisburg; several nieces and nephews; and brothers-in-law, Dean (Cindy) Deitz and Jim (Nannie) Deitz. Gib was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and three brothers.

Funeral services for Gib Frier, 90, of Carmi, will be held on Monday, June 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be in Big Prairie Cemetery near Carmi with military rites by Carmi American Legion and V.F.W.. Friends may call on Sunday, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial gifts may be given in Gib's name to Emmanuel United Methodist Church and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
