George E. Porter, 87, of Norris City passed away at 11:20 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the VA Medical Center in Marion, IL. He was born August 14, 1927 in Fairfield, IL the son of John and Daisy (Bryant) Porter. George married Nadine Blake on September 21, 1962 and she preceded him in death on July 13, 1992. He was a World War II Army veteran. George was a jack of all trades but had worked as a welder, in the oil fields and in auto body shops. He was a member of the Norris City American Legion.
George is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Laverta Bishop and Kay Bridwell both of Norris City and Sue and Ray Sampier of Hanna City, IL; a special friend, Freda Mercer of Norris City; seven grandchildren, Tammy Bishop, Brandon Bishop, Carrie Ann Guthrie, Kevin Sampier, Scott Sampier, Amber Sampier and Larissa Hays; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two sons, John and Tommy Porter.
A celebration of George's life will take place at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. Burial will follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norris City. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City on Saturday after 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in George's memory to the Disabled American Vets and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City.
