George Johnson

George R. "Bob" Johnson, 65, of Carmi, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 3:08 a.m. at his residence. He was born May 21, 1948 in New Haven, IL, the son of John Calvin and Virginia Ruth (Acord) Johnson. Bob married Rebecca Jo McGuire on April 25, 1968 and she preceded him in death on June 19, 2007. He worked as a coal miner and in management for several coal mine companies. Bob was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart medal. He was an avid golfer and hunter, but mostly enjoyed being with family and friends.

Bob is survived by his mother, Ruth Johnson of New Haven; two sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Gina Johnson and Travis and Angel Johnson all of Hendersonville, TN; a sister, Paula Mitchell of Chatam, IL; and five grandchildren, Reagan, Sydney, Halle, Briley and Bobby Johnson. He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services for George R. "Bob" Johnson, 65, of Carmi, will be Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Steve McClure officiating. Burial will be in Union Ridge Cemetery in Norris City with millitary rites conducted. Friends may call on Friday, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Memorial gifts may be given in Bob's name to the VNA Hospice in Mt. Carmel and will be accepted at the funeral home.
