George Thomas Hawkins, 60 of Mt. Vernon, died Wednesday August 20, 2014 at his home. He was born May 1, 1954 in Evansville, the son of Carl and Annie (Givens) Hawkins, Jr.
George retired from the Mt. Vernon Sewer Dept. He was a veteran of the United States Navy; and a member of the Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ.
He is survived by 2 sons, George and Adrian Hawkins; 1 daughter, Patricia Reich all of Mt. Vernon; 2 brothers, Charles Hawkins of Terre Haute and Robert Hawkins of Mt. Vernon; 4 sisters, Mary Cason of Reynoldsburg, OH, Elizabeth Lee of Madison, IN, Sarah Clark of Mt. Vernon; and Robin Spanner of New Harmony; 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, Dwayne Stewart; 1 brother, Carl Givens; and 2 sisters, Debra Hargett and Barbara Washington.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday August 25, 2014 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with burial in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services. Online condolences may be left at stendebackfamilyfuneralhome.com
