Gary Allen Nixon, 76, of Carmi passed away at 2:40 a.m., Monday, October 2, 2017 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. He was born in Chicago, IL on April 27, 1941 the son of Harold M. and Inez (Crayne) Nixon. Gary married Sharon Lannette Winter on August 2, 1969. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Gary was a self employed painter and later with Tommy Churchwell Painting. He was a member of the VFW post 3851. Gary enjoyed flipping houses, woodworking and redoing furniture.
Gary is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sharon (Winter) Nixon, of Carmi; daughter, Donna (Jerry) Davis, of Carmi; brother, Harold E. "Mike" Nixon, of Greeley, CO; sister, Louise Bledsoe, of Zeeland, MI; half-brothers, George Nixon, Harold Nixon, Jr. both of Illinois, Melvin Nixon and John Nixon both of Arizona; half-sister, Violet (Nixon) Schaefer; two grandchildren, Devin (Amanda) Nixon-Davis and Alton (Kiersten) Folz and three great-grandsons, Mason Joe Folz, Stryder Allen Nixon-Davis and Brayden Lee Prater. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold M. Nixon and Inez (Crayne) Aldrich, a daughter, Christie Nixon Bozorgpour, a granddaughter, Lannette Marie Headlee and a half-brother, Mike Nixon.
Visitation for Gary Allen Nixon, 76, of Carmi, will be held at 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Memorial contributions may be made in Gary's memory to the American Diabetes Association or the National Kidney Foundation and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi who is in charge of arrangements.
