Gary L. Daws, 77 of Mount Vernon, IN, passed away Wednesday October 5, 2016 at St. Marys Hospital in Evansville. He was born July 22, 1939 in Evansville, the son of Alvin and Mabel (Holler) Daws. He married Carol Marx on June 11, 1961 in Mt. Vernon.
Gary retired as the Lock Master at the John T. Myers Lock and Dam. He had served as a Volunteer Fireman at the Mt. Vernon Civil Defense and the Posey County Ambulance Service, a reserve Sheriffs deputy, and had worked security for many years at the Red Geranium. He was a member of the Bethel Tempel Church.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Michael Ray (Vicki) and Brian Lee (Cammy) Daws; daughters, Lori Ann (Alan) Jacobs and Kathy Marie (John) Scarberry; grandchildren, Brittany McDaniel, Joshua and Jenna Jacobs, Destin Cox, Kayla Knasel and Chrissy, Braxton and Brylee Daws; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Jace and Layden Knasel; one sister, Linda (Bob) Hape.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday October 8, 2016 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon, with Pastor Matthew Watson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services. Memorials are suggested to St. Judes Childrens Hospital in care of the funeral home.
