Gary Axton

Gary W. Axton, 75 of Mt. Vernon, passed away Tuesday morning October 25, 2016 at Deaconess Gateway. He was born March 16, 1941 in Evansville, the son of David and Virginia (Clodfelter) Axton. He was married to Marilyn Anderson.
Gary was a retired truck driver from WSI in Mt. Vernon. He enjoyed hot rods and collecting knives and cowboy hats.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn; son, Gary Axton, daughters, Christina (James) Eaton and Tricia Johnson; step-sons, Barry and Blaine Maydew and Ryan DeWalt; step-daughters, Brenda Holton, Buffy Blake and Ranee Hogan; 15 grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; brothers, Darell and Mike Cates; sister, Donna Renehan. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Lester and Keith Cates.
Visitation for Gary will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Friday October 28, 2016 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home, 1330 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Evansville. Online condolences may be left at stendebackfamilyfuneralhome.com
