Frances Nelson

Frances M. "Fran" Nelson, 75, of Carmi, passed away at 12:45 p.m., Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at her residence. She was born September 8, 1941 in Pilgrim, KY , the daughter of Lacy and Grace (Moore) Mills. Fran married Louis "Wayne" Nelson on April  4, 1959. She worked at Lincoln School for 30 years as a noon supervisor, custodian and crossing guard. Fran was a member and very active at Cherry Street General Baptist Church in Carmi. She was famous for her chicken and dumplings and she loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed watching and supporting her grandchildren in various activities.

Fran is survived by her husband of 58 years, Wayne Nelson; four sons, David (Gayla) Nelson, Frank (Kathy) Nelson and Tracy (Stephanie) Nelson all of Carmi, and Troy (Brandy) Nelson of Norris City; four sisters, Faye Large of Carmi, Bonnie (Hubert) Presley of Lovely, KY, Brenda Mills and Dianna (Ike) Jarrell both of Pilgrim, KY; two sisters-in-law, Carol Sue Mills of Lovely, KY and Elsie Mills of Louisa, KY; eleven grandchildren, Jeremy (Hilary), Matthew, Andy, Justin, Bryce, Brandi, Luke, Alex, Wyatt and Mitchell Nelson and Lacey (Keaton) Bradshaw; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Leroy and Troy Mills and a brother-in-law, John Large.

Funeral services for Frances M. "Fran" Nelson, 75, of Carmi, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 23, 2017 at Cherry Street General Baptist Church in Carmi with Rev. Gary Nalley officiating. Burial will be in Centerville Cemetery in Carmi. Visitation will be at Cherry Street General Baptist Church in Carmi on Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Fran's memory to Cherry Street General Baptist Church and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi who is in charge of arrangements.
