Everett Mills, 88, of Carmi and New Haven, passed away at 7:50 a.m., Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Settlers Place in La Porte, IN. He was born on June 6, 1927 in Emma Township, IL the son of Murrell and Gaynell Evelyn (Ray) Mills, Everett married Sue E. Wood on December 7, 1946. He had worked as a farmer, on a barge, as part of the IBEW and operated a backhoe service at Union Ridge. Everett was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War and a member of New Haven Presbyterian Church and the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Sue; two daughters, Ann Murray and Lori Sudlow and husband Roger all of La Porte, IN; four sons, Russell Mills of Mill Creek, IN, John Mills and wife Donna and Timothy Mills and wife Carrie all of New Carlisle, IN and Michael Mills and wife Joni of Evansville, IN; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a half-brother, Danny Ray Conrad of Carmi. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dora Browning and a half-sister, Donna Conrad.
Funeral services for Everett Mills will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be in Union Ridge Cemetery near Norris City. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until service time at Campbell Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made in Everett's memory to New Haven Presbyterian Church and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
