Errol Fred Westfall, 77, of Marion, passed away at 4:21 p.m., Monday, May 15, 2017 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, IL. He was born in Crossville, IL on September 13, 1939 the son of Clarence W. "Bud" and Martha E. "Marty" (Logan) Westfall. Fred married Peggy June Applegate on April 7, 1962. He was a 1957 graduate of Carmi Township High School. Fred served in the United States Navy from 1957-1963. He worked in the United States Penitentiary in Marion, IL, Leavenworth, KS and Terre Haute, IN. He retired in 1989 from the Federal Correctional Institution in Oxford, WI. Fred worked as a private investigator and was an author and song writer.
Fred is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy; son, Jeffrey Westfall of Benton, IL; two daughters, Robin (Jerry) Sullivan, of Mt. Vernon, IN and Tracy (Russ) Rau, of Goreville, IL; sister-in-law, Marilyn Westfall of Carmi; seven grandchildren, Joshua Sullivan, Lisa (Ryan) Tallman, Dustin (Anna) Rau, Brandon (Katie) Rau, Jordan Rau, Mason Westfall and Makailey Westfall; and ten great-grandchildren, Madison, Joshua, David, and Colin Tallman, Davin Sullivan, Leah, Wyatt, Cole, Chole and Grace Rau. He is preceded in death by his parents Clarence "Bud" and Martha "Marty" Westfall; a son, David Brent Westfall on May 31, 1990 and a brother Jon Westfall on November 14, 2016.
Funeral service for Errol Fred Westfall, 77, of Marion, will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Mt. Vernon Community Church-Blacks Chapel with Pastor John Motz officiating. Burial will be in Village Cemetery in Norris City with Military Rites by the Carmi VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Memorial contributions may be made in Fred's memory to the American Diabetes Association and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
