Emma A. Hooser, 95, of Carmi, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 8:36 a.m. at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. She was born June 7, 1918 in Carmi, IL, the daughter of David and Louella (Wheeler) Shepard. Emma graduated from Carmi High School in 1936. She married Samuel Archie Hooser on October 14, 1936 and he preceded her in death on May 11, 1997. Emma was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Carmi where she had taught Sunday School from pre-school age to older ladies. She was a member of the Martha Sunday School Class.
Emma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Larry B. Hughes of Carmi; three grandchildren, Kyle Hughes and his wife, Brennan, Angie Chicchirichi and her husband, David and David Wayne Hooser; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Archie Wayne Hooser on July 9, 2013; a sister, Mary Welch; and a grandson, Kevin Hughes on March 9, 1989.
Funeral services for Emma A. Hooser, 95, of Carmi, will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 7, 2013 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Rev. Luke Raczykowski and Mike Fields officiating. Burial will be in White County Memorial Garden near Carmi. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi on Sunday, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Emma's name to First Baptist Church in Carmi and will be accepted at the funeral home.
