Elwood "Woody" Huffer, 87, of Carmi, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 4:08 p.m. at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. He was born March 29, 1925 in Springerton, IL, the son of Clinton Phillip and Audrey (McGhee) Huffer. Woody married Darcy (Ackerman) Vaught in 1974 and she preceded him in death November 21, 2009. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Elks Lodge, American Legion, V. F. W., Masonic Lodge and Shrine all of Carmi. Woody was a salesman for Reed Roller Bit, Smith Bit and Rector & Stone Drilling. He was a WWII Army veteran.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Gene Frymire of Henderson, KY; a son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Kay Huffer of Enfield; five grandchildren, Anthony and wife, Staci Huffer, Heather and husband, John Brumfiel, Shonna Riedell, Keith Fleck and Rob and wife, Kristan Frymire; 11 great-grandchildren; the mother of his childen, Mary Lou McBrayer of Henderson, Ky; step-daughters, Donna and husband, Terry Lutes and Dixie Vaught all of Springfield, IL; a step-son, David Vaught of Naperville, IL; six step grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Elwood "Woody" Huffer, 87, of Carmi, will be Sunday, April 22, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Rev. John Brumfiel officiating. Burial will be in Hammock Cemetery near Springerton. Friends may call on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
