Ellis Austin, 91, of Norris City passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Enfield Rehab and Nursing. He was born in White County, IL on May 27, 1925 the son of Ebert and Mary May (Oliver) Austin. Ellis married Virginia Hays on January 25, 1951. He was a longtime grain and livestock farmer and operated Austin Farms. Ellis was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the White County Farm Beuaru and Walnut Grove Baptist Church, a Heralds Prairie Township Cemetery Trustee and served on the NCOE School Board.
Ellis is survived by his wife, Virginia; two daughters, Sherry (Richard) Kingston of Norris City and Sandra (Ralph) Cheaney of Wadesville, IN; son, Steve Austin of Norris City; sister, Jean Beck of Bloomington, IL; brother, Leon Austin of Evansville, IN; four grandchildren, Jennifer and Brett Cheaney, Kyle Kingston and Kaitlyn Lasswell; and two great-grandchildren, Cole Kingston and Aiden Lasswell. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard "Bud" Austin.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. Burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery near Brownsville. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Campbell Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made in Ellis' memory to Walnut Grove Baptist Church or Enfield Rehab and Nursing and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. www.campbellfuneralservices.com
