Ella Mae Brown, 98, of Crossville passed away at 11:45 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Carmi Manor Rehab and Nursing Center. She was born in Phillips Township, IL on October 14, 1917, the daughter of Jacob and Etta (Upshaw) Walker. Ella married Wallace H. "Sonny" Brown in Norris City, IL on August 30, 1941 and he preceded her in death on July 30, 1980. She worked for many years as the Phillips Township Supervisor. Ella joined Phillipstown United Methodist Church and later moved to Crossville United Methodist Church. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, Church Board Secretary for 23 years and as a Lay Delegate to Conference.
Ella is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Rita Brown of Crossville and John and Rita Ann Brown of Enfield; two grandchildren, Jerrad Brown and wife Becky and Jennifer O'Daniel and husband Aaron; five great-grandchildren, Colton and Brody Brown, and Camas, Bryant and Adler O'Daniel; two step-great-grandchildren, Emily and Ethan Mahon; and a special niece Carol Walker. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, a brother and a grandson, Derek Brown.
Funeral services for Ella Mae Brown, 98, of Crossville will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Crossville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Stokes Chapel Cemetery in Crossville. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at Crossville United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made in Ella's memory to Carmi Manor, 615 W. Webb St., Carmi, IL 62821 and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi who is in charge of arrangements.
