Elizabeth Painter

October 24, 1926 — January 2, 2018

Elizabeth J. (Betty) Painter, 91, of Carrollton, passed away at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis, on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.  She was born on October 24, 1926 in Kane Township, the daughter of H. Burns and Beryl (Griffin) Smith.  She married Orville Painter and he preceded her in death.

Betty worked for 40 years at O.H. Vivell Company in Carrollton, before her retirement in 2005.  She was a member and Past President of Carrollton Business & Professional Women's Club, and charter member of the Carrollton Women's Civil Defense.  She enjoyed playing Bridge, Pinochle and Bingo, and reading.  She was an avid bowler and was most proud of her 150 average, 203 game and Team Champion, the year of her retirement at the age of 80.  She belonged to the Carrollton United Methodist Church.

She is survived by brothers, Lyndell (Sally) Smith, Robert Smith; 10 nieces and nephews, many great and great-great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by sister, Martha Graves and nephew, Richard Smith.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Carrollton United Methodist Church.  Visitation will be from 12 until the time of service.  Memorials may be given in her memory to the Carrollton United Methodist Church .  Online condolences may be left at stendebackfamilyfuneralhome.com
