Elizabeth Eichem, 102, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, formerly of Enfield, passed away on May 7, 2024. She was born on October 18, 1921, in Rockfield, Kentucky, the daughter of Ephron and Dewey (Mitchell) Joiner. She married Charles W. Eichem on August 12, 1945, and he preceded her in death on February 10, 1989. Elizabeth worked in a sewing factory as a machine operator. Elizabeth was a part of the greatest generation. She was a driller on the wings of the P-47 Thunderbolt, and worked 12 hours a day, as she was proud of her contribution to the War effort for our country. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Carmi, Illinois. Elizabeth was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and American Rosie the Riveter Association. Elizabeth was completely devoted to her family. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening and volunteering. Elizabeth loved being involved in and attending church.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Mary Alice Hutchinson, Lynda Elaine (Louis) Pottinger and Charlene (Shabir) Bharadia; grandchildren, Pamela Joiner, Perry (Katy Hayden) Joiner, Todd (Jeanne) Hutchinson, David (Suzanne) Mills, Kimberly Fuller, Jennifer Perigo, Rebecca (Robert) Frakes and Imron (Jessica) Bharadia; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; siblings, Leon Joiner, Glenn Joiner and Virgie Barber. In addition to her husband, Charles Eichem, Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Charles W. Eichem, Jr; two grandchildren, Michael Mills and Mark Mills; and siblings, Reathel Joiner, Mabel Warren, William C. Joiner, Opal Walton; sons of her brother, Reathel, who were raised as siblings, Wallace Joiner and Virgil Joiner; and her son-in-law, Richard N. Hutchinson.
Funeral services for Elizabeth Eichem will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, with burial at Enfield Cemetery. Family and friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
