Eleanor Ernestine Hubele departed to her Heavenly home at 8:08 a.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2023 surrounded by her children and sister. Eleanor was born November 25, 1927 to Ernest and Lydia (Winter) Miller of Carmi.
Eleanor graduated from Carmi Township High School in 1945. She married Vernon Hubele on October 25, 1946. She worked at numerous part-time jobs while raising her 3 children. She later attended cosmetology school and became a beautician. She opened Eleanor’s Beauty Shop and operated in the basement of her home for many years. Over the years, Eleanor faithfully served her church, Carmi Emmanuel Church, in many capacities, including teaching Sunday School, serving in the United Methodist Women, and singing in the choir.
Eleanor loved Jesus first, with her family a close second. She loved singing with her sisters and in the church choir. She thoroughly enjoyed attending events her family was involved in, even if it meant, more recently, watching them through FaceTime. She also took great pleasure in providing delicious meals for her family, most famously bread dressing and chicken and dumplings. Eleanor spent countless hours crocheting blankets to give as gifts. She loved word searches and watching the Game Show Network. Her favorite days were filled with her kids coming and going between practices and appointments. Grandma’s house was the center of activity, and she delighted in it, always telling them to “come back and see her”.
Eleanor is survived by daughters Alice (Ed) Bohleber and Lynn (Jeff) Cantrell; son Terry (Julie) Hubele; sister Grace Shook; in-laws Claire Hubele and Diane Hubele; grandchildren Allen (Katie) Bohleber, Tina (Shon) Mosier, Loren (Brandon) Alexander, Tracy (Brian) Orr; great-grandchildren Lio, Erin, Ema, Ian, Eleanor, Eli, Maxton, and Matilda; great-great granddaughter Peyton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, her parents, and 4 sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 3 at 11:00 a.m., also at Emmanuel Church in Carmi, followed by graveside services at White County Memorial Garden.
