Edward Nathaniel Turner, age 88 of Mt. Vernon, In, passed away peacefully at his home, Wednesday February 10, 2010. He was born August 6, 1921, to the late Rev. Frank and Esther (Foley) Turner.
Ed enjoyed gardening and fishing and spending time with his family and friends. Ed was a loving and giving person, never expecting anything in return. Until his retirement he was employed as a carpenter for Duckworth Bros. and for Bob Beste. He served in the United States Army during WWII. Ed was a member of the Church of God Mission and served as the church’s treasurer for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah of 44 years, two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and David Dailey and Judy and David Trout all of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Herdes (Ben) Turner; two sisters-in-law, Imogene Turner and Mae Turner and one brother-in-law, James Alldredge. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Rev. Paul Turner, Rev. Bertis Turner and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday February 13, 2010 at the Austin~Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1440 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon with Rev. Leon Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Church of God Mission.
