Edgar L. Vaughan, 96 of New Harmony, died on February 1, 2014 at New Harmony Healthcare. He was born on March 31, 1917 in Richmond, VA and raised there by his parents, Harper and Gracie (Thompson) Vaughan.
He married Evelyn Weimer then Helen Crittenden and they preceded him in death. He moved to New Harmony in 2001 and made his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Judy Vaughan.
Mr. Vaughan worked for the RF&P Railroad for many years and retired as a Conductor from Amtrak in 1982. He was a member of the United States Power Squadrons. He belonged to the International Brotherhood of Magicians and served as President of the local chapter. He loved to go boating, garden and do magic tricks, and in his younger years, ballroom dancing. He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Judy Vaughan of New Harmony; twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sue Walker; brother, Eppa who was killed in WWII as a Bomber Pilot; and grandson, Thomas Vaughan of New Harmony in 2005.
A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Kingdom Hall and will be collected by the funeral home.
