E. Wayne Ackerman, 88, of New Haven, passed away at 6:50 p.m., Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. He was born in White County, IL on December 31, 1926, the son of Willard Frederick and Lula (Ridenour) Ackerman. Wayne married Frances M. Schultheis on June 22, 1952 at Bethel United Church of Christ in Evansville, IN. He served his country in the U.S. Army, from 1953 to 1955, during the Korean War as a helicopter mechanic. Wayne was a farmer and was one of the first to use irrigation and no-till. He was a member of Concord United Methodist Church, White County Agricultural Council, Concord School Board and a lifetime member of Carmi American Legion.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Doris and Ed Baumgart of Mt. Vernon, IN, Marie Ackerman of Evansville, IN and Carolyn and Steve Horwatt of West Chester, OH; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Angie Ackerman of Carmi and Roy and Laura Ackerman of Evansville, IN; a sister, Lola Smith of Albion; two brothers, William (Patsy) Ackerman of Carmi, Kenneth (Pat) Ackerman of New Haven; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Ackerman of Carmi and Mary Alice Fisher of Evansville, IN; two brothers-in-law, Frank J. (Judy) Schultheis of Newburgh, IN and Alton "Bud" (Lois) Schultheis of Evansville, IN; eight grandchildren, Amy Menger, Anna Roe, Amber Ackerman, Heath Ackerman, Sharon Horwatt, Becky Horwatt, Kellie Ackerman and Neil Ackerman; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Lula Mae Vinson; and five brothers, Fred, James, Herbert, Howard and Joseph Ackerman.

Funeral services for E. Wayne Ackerman, 88, of New Haven will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 31, 2015 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Pastor Shane Smith officiating. Burial will be in Kuykendall Cemetery with full military rites by the Carmi American Legion and VFW. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Wayne's name to Concord United Methodist Church or White County 4-H Support Committee and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
