Douglas "Doug" Lee Smith, 61, of Carmi, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Carmi, Illinois, on January 28, 1961, the son of Glenard and Loretta (Mundhank) Smith. Doug married Cynthia "Cindy" Sexton on October 29, 1993. Together they shared 30 years of life and love. He worked as a mechanic for the City of Carmi for 20 years. Doug had a love for old cars and trucks, especially Chevys. He loved working with his hands and building things, and one of his greatest accomplishments was building his home. If he was building or working on something, he was happy.
Doug is survived by his wife, Cindy Smith of Carmi, IL; two son, Michael Smith and John Rush, both of Carmi, IL; five grandchildren who he truly loved, Chloe Steele, Evan Rush, Chloe Smith, Kynley Smith and Bradley Smith; brothers and sisters-in-law, Pam Attebury, Anthony Sexton, Chris (Suanne) Sexton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Guy and Wilma (Holland) Mundhank and Max and Olla Smith; mother and father-in-law, Gerald and Helen Sexton; a brother-in-law, Joe Attebury; and his faithful companion, Dozer.
Funeral services for Doug Smith, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2022, at Stendeback Funeral Home in Carmi, with burial following at North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. Family and friends may visit from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Stendeback Funeral Home in Carmi, who is in charge of arrangements
