Dorothy Violet Elizabeth Brandt Searcy, 77 of Mount Vernon, IN, died peacefully and slipped into God’s waiting hands at 8:30 a.m. Friday May 23, 2008 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN.

Dorothy was born July 4, 1930 to Lawrence and Meta (Dempersmeier) Brandt in Posey County, IN. She married the father of her two daughters, Alvin Searcy on June 2, 1951. He preceded her in death. Their daughter, Debbie also preceded her in death on Juy 4, 2006.

She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Mount Vernon. Dorothy worked as a telephone operator for AT&T in Mount Vernon for many years. She was an Avon representative for 24 years in the community and served as a volunteer for 9 years at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.


She is survived by her loving daughter, Cindy of Evansville; her cousins, Angless Schwindel, Ruth Nowling, Nellie Bradley and Vernon Dempersmeier, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks are extended to Dr. David Julian and his staff, the staffs of Deaconess Hospital and Deaconess Hospice, Rev. Penny Greer, Chaplain Jeff Palmer, Betty Ann Stierley, Angless Schwindel and Beverly Crum for their love and support during this very difficult time.

Dorothy is now in heaven at peace with God and with no pain. She was a loving Mother and a cherished friend. We will miss her until we meet again in Heaven.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday May 27th at Trinity United Church of Christ in Mount Vernon with burial in St John’s Cemetery at Bufkin. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at the Austin Funeral Home in Mount Vernon and 9 a.m. until time of service at the Church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dorothy’s name to the Music Fund at Trinity United Church of Christ. Online notes of sympathy may be left at Austinfuneralhome.com
