Dorothy Fishback
June 10, 1919 — October 23, 2014
Dorothy Fishback, 95, of Carmi, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 4:45 a.m. at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. Dorothy was born in Dale, IL on June 10, 1919, the daughter of Charlie and Hattie Easter Crayne and was a longtime resident of White County. She was married to James Harril Fishback who preceded her in death on July 1, 1992.
Dorothy was an avid antiquer. She enjoyed running an antique business out of her home on Stewart Street for many years. Her family and friends knew they were always welcome at her home. Earlier in life she had been a Wearever Utensil dealer. She also had clerked at grocery stores and worked at the Carmi Factory.
Dorothy entered Wabash Christian on November 23, 2007. She particularly enjoyed the church services and Bible Study. She was of the Pentecostal faith. She had her place in the front lobby where she enjoyed the visitors.
She is survived by her daughter, Elaine Simmons and her friend, Lawrence Martin, who was very active in her care. Other survivors include a sister-in-law, Betty Fishback of Carmi; grandsons, Jim (Anna) Simmons of Morton, IL, Lynn (Jane) Simmons and Keith (Judie) Simmons all of Enfield, Rick (Phyllis) Fishback of Carriere, MS, Charles (Donna) Fishback, Gary Fishback and Don Fishback of Picayune, MS; two granddaughters, Sherry Fishback Foster of Picayune, MS and Jamie (Dennis) Morgan of Taylor, SC; 16 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, James Harril Fishback, Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Ann Fishback; a son-in-law, James A. Simmons; three sisters, Opal Crawford, Inez Aldrich and Oma Ellison; and three brothers, Jesse, Silas and Arlie Crayne.
She was blessed by a wonderful pastor, Mike Fields, the nursing staff at Wabash Christian Retirement, the Hospice group, and a good roommate, Betty Blackford. We appreciate all of the prayers, visitors and cards.
Funeral services for Dorothy Fishback, 95, of Carmi, will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Rev. Jon Westfall officiating. Burial will be in White County Memorial Garden near Carmi. Friends may call on Sunday, from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
I lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wabash Christian Retirement Center or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
