Doris Stark

Doris Eileen (Winter) Stark, 96, of Carmi, passed away on Friday, April 30, 2021 in Wabash Christian Village. Doris was born on September 24, 1924 in Carmi, the daughter of Ernest and Alma (Howell) Winter. On June 15, 1942 she married Thomas D. Stark and together they shared over 58 years of marriage before his passing on December 20, 2000.

Doris was a 1941 graduate of Carmi Township High School. After High School she was employed as a secretary with the Law Firm of Kern, Pearce and Pearce in Carmi. While Tom was in The United States Navy, Doris and he lived in Long Beach, CA; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA and Newport, RI, before returning to Carmi where she continued working as a secretary, again for the Law Firm, then, Consumers Gas Company and  Egyptian Health.

She was a longtime member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Carmi. Doris also took an active role in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed playing bridge, pinochle, and golf. Doris also liked to travel and attend the reunions at Zion Church and Boot Jack School.

Survivors include, her daughter, Jane Stark Brown of Crossville, IL; grandson, Jason (Jennifer) Brown of Lexington, KY; two great-grandsons, Wyatt and Henry Brown of Lexington, KY and nieces Teresa Lynn Mears of Benton, KY, Carol Ann Ackerman of Mt. Vernon, IN and Paula Jean Bohleber of Carmi. In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Stark and a sister Wilma Schumaker.

Private family funeral services for Doris Eileen (Winter) Stark, 96, of Carmi will be held at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
