Doris Simons

Doris Marie Simons, 86, of Mt. Vernon, IN, died at 5:35 pm, Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN, after suffering a severe stroke. She was born October 13, 1919 in Mt. Vernon, IN, daughter of Arthur and Minnie (Bayer) Topper. During her career ears Doris worked as a bookkeeper for her Father at Topper Motor Sales in Mt.Vernon, IN. In her later years she became a caregiver for both parents. In the past few years she, in turn was cared for by devoted caregivers, Caroline and Jimmy Tinsley, Bill Phillips and Daphane Snyder. Doris was a member of the Sinawik Club, a member of the Elks Club and a lifelong member of Trinity United Church of Christ. She enjoyed visiting with family, playing bridge with friends and driving the country side and nature.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gordon Simons, her brother, Howard Topper and her sister, Vera (Topper) Horton.

She leaves behind her nephew, Larry A. Horton of Mt. Vernon, IN; three great nieces, Kelly Dickie, Sara Horton-Deutsch and Janell Horton Whelpley; and a great-great neice and nephew, Sara Katherine and William J. Deutsch.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am, Saturday, September 9, 2006 at Austin Funeral Home, 1330 East Fourth Street, Mt.Vernon, IN with burial in the Bellefontaine Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00pm until 8:00pm Friday, September 8 at the funeral home.
