Doris Louella Finch, 88, of Carmi passed away, Monday, January 2, 2012 at 10:45 pm at her residence. A lifelong resident of White County, she was born August 25, 1923, in a log house in rural Phillipstown, the third of four daughters born to Ed and Pearl (Sanders) Cagle. A farm girl, she attended the country grade school in Phillipstown, graduated from Crossville High School, then worked as a secretary for several businesses.
She married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Finch, on November 22, 1945. They lived and farmed in rural Carmi until they moved to Carmi in 1959 where Doris worked more than 20 years as a telephone operator for General Telephone Company before retiring. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
Doris liked people and her home was a welcoming one. She was generous in sharing what she had with those around her, especially with her family whom she cherished deeply. A great "down-home" cook, she provided abundantly for all who sat around her kitchen table. Always well-groomed, she loved glitzy jewelry, the beauty of flowers blooming in her yard, and displaying family pictures. Babies and children were of
particular delight to her.
Chronic pain slowed her down in her retirement, but she did not let it get her down. Kindhearted and caring, Doris lived with a grateful spirit, deeply enjoying the visits and phone calls of family and friends.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Jan and John Talbott of San Diego, CA; son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Anita Finch of Seattle, WA, and son Keith Finch of Carmi; 4
grandchildren: Beth, Lisa, Scott, and Adam; 3 great grandchildren: Abby, Anneleya, and Grant; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband
