Donald Ray Thomas 82 of 4949 Slim Pond Rd., Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday morning November 8, 2016 at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after suffering a stroke. He was born February 12, 1934 in Mt. Vernon, the son of Wilford and Agnes (Russell) Thomas. He was married to Elizabeth Goodman and she preceded him in death on December 14, 2006.
Donald was a construction worker for Local #561 until his retirement. He received an award from United Labor for 50 years of service. He received a silver pin, a gold card and a denim shirt, each marked with the Laborers International Union of North America, logo.
He is survived by sisters, Wanetta (Herman) Deckard, Shelby (Elmer) Mills, Bonnie (Lee) Huntsman, Carolyn (Stephen) Dickens and Phyllis (H. Benjamin) Turner; brothers, Charles Edward (Vonda Sue) Thomas, Kenneth Eugene (Barbara) Thomas and Dennis Dale (Kalah) Thomas; stepsons, Roy Nation, Dennis Nation and Dale Cooper, Jr., sister-in-law, Jane Thomas. He was preceded in death by sister, Mary Ruth Garrett; brothers, Joseph Earl Thomas, Elvis Wayne Thomas, Wilford Glen Thomas and Virgil Preston Thomas; and stepson, Robert Nation.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 14, 2016 at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at stendebackfamilyfuneralhome.com
