Dennis Hodges

Dennis R. Hodges, 60 of Mt. Vernon, died on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He was born on August 15, 1949 in Wisconsin, the son of Samuel J. and Dorothy L. (Hendershott) Hodges. He married Bonita R. Russell on September 29, 1994 and she survives.


Mr. Hodges was a retired truck driver. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion Owen Dunn Post #5 in Mt. Vernon, DAV in Mt. Vernon and the VFW in Evansville.


He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carrie and Jeremiah Johnson and Nancy and Greg Wilshire, all of Mt. Vernon and Debra Hodges of Evansville; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Dennis and Stephanie Hodges, Jr. of Tennessee, Jeffrey Hodges and his fiancé, Melissa, and Allen and Lori McDonnough, all of Mt. Vernon; twenty-one grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and one brother, Thomas Krueger of Missouri; and good friends, Bonnie and Fred Young of Mt. Vernon. He was preceded in death by his parents.


Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 9, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Austin-Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon with Rev. Leon Clark officiating. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Weiss Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Owen Dunn Post #5.
