     Dean Carter, 93, of Carmi, IL passed on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi. Dean was born on February 15, 1930 in Urbana, IL the son the Otto Kenneth Carter and Lena Jane (Mead) Carter.  He married Faye L. Bratton on September 14, 1984. Dean served in the United States Army from 1948 to 1954, stationed in Berlin, during the Berlin Airlift and later served during the Korean War.  Dean served as the Mayor of Olney from 1973 to 1977.  He had retired from Unocal (formerly Pure Transportation Co.). Dean was an avid golfer and member of the Carmi Country Club and Over the Hill Gang.  He was also a member of the Carmi American Legion and VFW where he was active in assisting with the military funeral honors team.

     Dean is survived by his wife of 38 years, Faye; two step-children, Keith (Dawn) Bratton of Newburgh, IN and Kendra (Craig) Winter of Carmi; a brother, Tom (Judy) Carter of Casey, IL; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by three daughters, Carrie May, Deana Helfrich and Pamela Jo Reed, four brothers and two sisters,

     The family invites friends and family to join them at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Campbell Funeral Home where the Carmi American Legion and VFW with present full military honors.  A private family graveside service will be held at Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dean's memory to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ohio Valley, 3540 Washington Ave., Evansville, IN 47714 and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home, 609 W. Main St., Carmi, IL 62821 who is assisting the family with arrangements.
