David Stendeback

David Stendeback, 55 of Carrollton, passed away Monday December 21, 2015 at home surrounded by his family and friends by his side.

He was born January 7, 1960 in Carrollton, the son of Robert D. and Leone (Schmidt) Stendeback. He married Deanna Strahan on May 20, 1995 at St. John's Catholic Church.

David graduated from St. John's Catholic School and Carrollton High School class of 1978. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the K of C. He played softball for the famous H & H slow pitch softball team and member of the Lone Oak Men's golf league. He treasured the time he  spent coaching his sons little league baseball teams and had been a longtime St. John's basketball coach.

David was famous for many things. He was instrumental in bringing the mobility of cell phones to Greene County as one of the first US Cellular agents. He served three terms as the Mayor of the City of Carrollton. As a young man, David loved music and attended numerous concerts with friends and loved listening to KSHE. He was also known to ride his bike to the park to play baseball. Most of all he is remembered for always having a smile on his face, never knowing a stranger and loving his family and friends with everything he had.

He is survived by his wife, Deanna; his children, Lynsey (Jeff) Cress of Godfrey; Jacob and Nicholas Stendeback both at home;  grandchildren, Austin and Annabelle Cress; his sister, Terri Stendeback of St. Peters, MO; brothers, Richard (Jody) Stendeback of Carrollton and Bill (Lynn) Stendeback of Carmi. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dennis Stendeback.

Visitation and funeral mass will be Tuesday December 22, 2015 at St. John's Catholic Church from 3-7 p.m. with the mass at 7. A prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the church with burial to follow in St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. John's School and Blessing Hospice. The Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at stendebackfamilyfuneralhome.com
