Darrell Dean Stafford, 87 of Mt. Vernon, died Sunday morning, July 6, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on July 1, 1927 in Salina, KS, the son of Elmer and Leona (Weatherby). He married Marguerite Jean Currier on March 22, 1949 in Salina and she preceded him in death on February 18, 2012.
Mr. Stafford had worked at ADM as a cereal chemist. He served in the US Navy. He enjoyed mowing his lawn, reading, especially that of a political nature, fishing, kite flying and bird watching.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael & Becky Stafford of Mt. Vernon and Steven & Sherri Stafford of Evansville; grandchildren, Amanda (Doug) Berry, Alyssa Safford, Ryan (Erika) Creswell; great grandchildren, Miranda Wallace, Everleigh Creswell, Sage Creswell, Tyler Stafford, Patrick Berry; sister-in-law, Veronica Stafford; brothers-in-law, Bob, Phil and Fred Currier; several nieces and nephews; family friend, Glenda Potter; and his cat, Thor the Conquerer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean of 62 years; parents, Elmer and Leona; son, Gregory; grandson, Nathan; brother, Don Stafford; and brother-in-law, David Currier.
Private services will be held for the immediate family.
