Darlene Emrick

August 29, 1937 — February 13, 2017

With all four of her children sitting by her side, on February 13, 2017 at 3:58pm, Dorothy Darlene Emrick moved into Heaven. She was born on August 29, 1937 in Vandalia, IL to the late Birl and Mim Fisher. She married the late Bill Sidwell in 1956 and together, they raised four children. In 1966, they moved to Norris city, where she lived for the rest of her life. In 1976, Darlene married Kellie Emrick who preceded her in death.

Darlene had a way of making people feel special and was known for giving hugs and kisses. She loved flea markets, jewelry, animals,coconut cream pie, laughing, and playing cards with her friends. She worked at Burnett insurance for many years, retiring in the mid-90's.

She was preceded in death by her brother Jim Pippin and sister Delores Workman. She was very loved and will be missed by family members, friends, and neighbors.

She is survived by one son and daughter in law, Tyler (Becky) Sidwell of Norris City; three daughters and sons-in-law, Darla (Tim) Ehrbright of Norris City, Jennie (Randy) Short of Norris City, and Cindy (Kent) Johnson of Lexington, KY; two step children, Kevin Emrick and Debbie Curl; ten grandchildren, Kara, Meagan, Cortney, Josiah, Lynsey, Abbie, Clayton, Gunnar, Scotty, and Jonathan; five great-grandchildren, Siler, Alaina, Blaire, Ben, and Judson; one special sister-in-law, Mary Sidwell of Staunton, IL, and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Hamilton Memorial Hospital for their kindness, Oza Cancer Center in Mt. Vernon, IL, and Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.

Funeral services for Darlene Emrick, 79, of Norris City will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City.  Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norris City.  Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Darlene made it known to her children that she would appreciate any donations made in her honor to be given to her granddaughter, Abbie Short, who serves as a missionary in Hong Kong.  Contributions may also be made online at www.abbieshort.com
