Darlean (Carney) Garrett, 85, of Carmi, passed away at 1:45 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2014 at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was born May 10, 1929 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Vernon and Lucile (Patrick) Carney. Darlean married Eugene Garrett on December 26, 1948 and he preceded her in death on September 8, 2002. She had attended Lindenwood College after high school and later worked as a teachers aide at Brownsville School along with being a longtime member of the Wabash Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Darlean is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Ron Raney of Carmi and Kristy and Robert Lindon of Naperville, IL; a sister and two brothers-in-law, Donna and Bill Kays of Carmi and Chet Burris; seven grandchildren, Kari Starks and husband, Stacy, Jason Pruitt and wife Jill, Tammy Raney, Melissa Dixon and husband, Jason, Shaina Lindon, Brent Lindon and wife, Heather and Andrea Reuland and husband, Matt; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister, Pat Burris; and a brother, Vernon Patrick Carney.
Funeral services for Darlean (Carney) Garrett, 85, of Carmi, will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Rev. Mike Buckman officiating. Burial will be in Big Prairie Cemetery near Carmi. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home on Thursday after 9:00 a.m. until service time.
Memorial contributions may be made in Darlean's memory to Brownsville School and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
