Danny Kern, age 66 of Mt. Vernon, IN died Thursday evening June 10, 2010 at Deaconess Hospital. He was born on May 9, 1944 in Griffin, the son of Charles Raymond and Alberta (Penrod) Kern. He married Carolyn Green on March 11, 1977 at New Harmony and she survives.
Mr. Kern was a carpenter. He had served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and reading Western books.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; two sons and a daughter-in-law, David & Vickie Kern of Evansville and Keith Goodwin of Mt. Vernon; two daughters and a son-in-law, Angie Wilhite of Evansville and Tracy & David Goldman of Poseyville; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Harold & Pam Kern of Issaquah, WA; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Venita & Jerry Nottingham of Cynthiana and Belinda & Mike Dillback of Evansville. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Christopher Lee Kern; one brother, Gary Kern; and one sister, Dorothy West.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 14, 2010 at the Austin-Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Griffin with graveside military rites conducted by Owen Dunn Post #5.
