D. Tygart

Jayne (Pierce) Tygart, 82, of Mt. Vernon, died at 3:30 PM, Saturday, August, 27, 2005 at the VNA Hospice in Evansville. Jayne was born May 30, 1923 in Sullivan County, Indiana daughter of John E. & Ethel (McGarvey) Pierce. She and her husband Jim owned and operated the Tygart Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, IN until their retirement. Jayne was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Rachel Circle of the United Methodist Women. She had served as President of the Metropolitan School Board of Mt. Vernon, a member of Kappa, Kappa, Kappa (Beta Unit), Ramblers Literary Club, Mt. Vernon Garden Club, Sunbeam Chapter #1, Order of Easter Star and Western Hills Country Club. Jayne was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Ann in 1961 at the age of 13.
Jayne is survived by her husband of 60 years, James H. “Jim” Tygart, her daughter, Nancy Smith and her husband Raymond of Oklahoma City, OK; 3 grandchildren, Dr. Courtney Stahl and her husband Jason, of Gainesville, FL, Brittney Smith of Heber Springs, AR, and Ashley Smith of Fayetteville, AR.; a sister Hazel Stephens of Wilfred, IN; a brother, William H. Pierce of Terre Haute, IN, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at Austin Funeral Home, 1330 East Fourth Street, Mt. Vernon, with Rev. Russ Abel officiating. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Friends may call from 5 PM until 7 PM on Tuesday, and from 9 AM until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to VNA Hospice, Deaconess Hospital or Mt. Vernon First United Methodist Church.
