Cleatus Morris

Cleatus Ora Morris, 93, affectionately known to many as "Sid", went home to be with the Lord on January 12, 2015 at the VA Community Living Center in Marion, IL. He was born on Sept. 30, 1921 in McLeansboro, IL to John Albert and Grace Beulah York Morris. One of eight siblings, Mr. Morris was preceded in death by his parents and four of his siblings; Bernard Morris, Jess Morris, Ruth Morris Jamieson and Val Morris.

He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Norma Morris of McLeansboro, sons Brad and Barry and a daughter, Kay Campbell. He is also survived by a brother, Todd Morris and wife Beulah of St.Francisville, IL, a sister, Ruby Mayo of MN, a sister, Betty Jo Davis of Fort Mohave, AZ and sisters-in-law Thelma Morris and Janet Morris both of McLeansboro. As well, many nieces and nephews, five grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Mr. Morris was a long-time resident of Hamilton County and member of Hopewell Baptist Church in McLeansboro. He was a patriot and proud WWII Veteran, volunteering for service at the early age of 19. He served as a Military Policeman in the European Theatre, spending time in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and the Isle of Capri from 1943 to 1945. After being discharged from the service, he spent over 40 years working in the oil fields of southern Illinois. Upon retirement he spent many enjoyable years wood crafting, gardening, doing yard work, fishing and performing handyman tasks for many friends and neighbors.

On Saturday, May 9, at 2:00 pm, there will be a graveside memorial service, with military honors, for Cleatus O. (Sid) Morris who passed away on January 12 of this year. The service will be held at Hopewell Cemetery, located on RR #5 in McLeansboro, with Brother Bud Seifried officiating. The service will be followed by a time of fellowship in the church for those who wish to attend. Campbell Funeral Home of Carmi is in charge of arrangements.
