Charles Winfrey

Charles Roy Winfrey, 98, of DuQuoin, formerly of Carmi and Norris City, passed away at 10:00 p.m., Monday, June 19, 2017 at Stonebridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Benton, IL. He was born in White County, IL on March 4, 1919 the son of Roy and Sarah Etta (Reddy) Winfrey. Charles married Maybourne "Naomi" Veatch on December 13, 1941 and she preceded him in death on July 17, 2001. He was a bus driver, carpenter and a farmer.

Charles is survived by three daughters, Janie (Carl) Spence of Salem, IL, Dixie (Richard) Obertini of DuQuoin, IL and Ginger Kirkendoll of Taylorville, IL; six grandchildren, Rodney, Jonathan and Daniel Sanders, Carla Livesay, Melanie Tate and Jenny Charlton; eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Sarah Etta Winfrey; his wife, Naomi; two brothers, Eugene and Vaughn Winfrey and a sister, Juanita Gidcumb.

Funeral services for Charles Roy Winfrey, 98, of DuQuoin, formerly of Carmi and Norris City will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. Burial will be in Village Cemetery in Norris City. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. Memorial contributions may be made in Charles' memory to Village Cumberland Presbyterian Church and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
