Charles Wilson, age 96, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born February 6, 1916, in Farmersville, IN, the son of Robert and Janie (Erwin) Wilson. He married Helen Walls on August 2, 1933, in Brownsville, IL, and she preceded him in death on December 31, 1997.

Charles retired from the Indiana Farm Bureau where he worked as a mechanic. He also worked as a driver for the Posey County Co-op. Charles loved to camp and fish. He was an avid Cardinals fan, never missing a game. He played drums in a country band for many years. His greatest joy was taking care of his family and kids.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Wanda Bundy of Mt. Vernon, and her husband Paul, who was Charles’ caregiver and considered a son, and Deena Wilson; 2 step- brothers, Paul Kuhn, Leonard Kuhn; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; a son, George Edward “Butch” Wilson; a daughter, Doris Jane Shephard; a granddaughter, Kayla Wild; a brother, Alfred Wilson, and a step-brother, Johnny Kuhn.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm, Thursday, July 26, 2012 at First Christian Church in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be held in the church from 10:00 am until the time of service. Pastor John Hilbert will officiate, with Pastor Mark Tabor assisting. Burial will take place in Union Ridge Cemetery near Herald, IL. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church in Mt. Vernon.
