Charles R. Marler, 74 of Carmi, passed away at 1:40 a.m., Friday, August 3, 2018, at his residence. He was born on December 8, 1943 in Crossville, IL the son of Paul Edward and Nevalene Mae (Ward) Marler. He married Loretta Jean Latham on December 24, 1962. He was in the US Army for 21 1/2 years serving two tours in Vietnam. He later worked as a coal miner at Galatia/American Coal for 20 years. Charles was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Carmi Masonic Lodge and Hadi Shrine.
Charles is survived by his wife of 55 years, Loretta; two sons, Terry Marler of Carmi and Richard (Debra Ragisus) Marler of Eldorado; brother, Sammie Marler of Youngsville, NY; sister, Nancy Elizabeth Pritchett, of Parkhill, MO and seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Stacy Edward Marler, a daughter, Nevalene Evelyn Marler and two brothers, Robert and Harold Marler.
Funeral service with Masonic Rites for Charles R. Marler, 74, of Carmi, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Rev. Keith Moore. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery in Lancaster, IL with full Military Rites by the Mt. Carmel Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until service time. Memorial contributions may be made in Charles' memory to Enfield Masonic Lodge and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi who is in charge of arrangements.
