Charles Manning

On May 5, 2017 Charles Milton (Milt) Manning, 84, was called home to be with God after living a long faithful life as a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather.  He was a life-long resident of Posey County with exceptions of his time in the US Army during the Korean War.  He was born to Charles H. and Arleta Manning on February 7, 1933.  He attended Mt. Vernon High School and was a proud member of the Class of 1952.  After returning from oversees, Milt met the love of his life, Doris Jane Schwartz, and they were honored to be the first couple married in the new First United Methodist Church on August 15, 1959.  He and his wife served as a dedicated member of the Chancel Choir for 60 years, and he was well known for belting out the bass lines to his favorite hymns.  His passion was farming the 7-generation Wilson family farm in the Old Beech area.  He retired in 1988 and moved to Mt. Vernon where he continued to spend his time helping farmer friends, tending to his roses, keeping the Posey County birds well fed and watching his grandchildren grow.

Milt is preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

He is survived by his daughters, Robin Sanabria (Tony), and Miriam Hammond (David); by his brother, Shannon Manning (Judy) of Kansas City, KS; grandchildren, Virginia and Andrew Sanabria, Aaron (Amanda) and Sarah Hammond; and great-grandchildren, Ona and Gabriel.

Visitation will be held at Stendeback Family Funeral Home, 1330 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon, IN on Monday, May 8th, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.  The funeral will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon, IN at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday May 9th,  with visitation from 9:00-10:00 a.m..  Burial will follow at Bethany Old Beach Cemetery, in Posey County. In lien of flowers, memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon, IN or Deaconess VNA Charlier Center, Evansville, IN.
