Carl L. "Gabby" Smith, 72, of Carmi passed away at his residence on Friday, March 27, 2015. He was born October 1, 1942 in Norris City, IL the son of Leonard and Opal (Leathers) Smith. Carl was a truck driver for over 52 years and most recently drove for J.W. Hodgson Trucking.
Carl is survived by two daughters, Brenda (Jesse) Raymer of Harrisburg and Sherry (Doug Barnett) Honaker of Hurst; a son, Preston (Heather) Smith of Enfield; a brother, Roger (Paula) Smith of Omaha; a sister, Hazel Wood of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren, Justin, Nathan, Jennifer, Dustin, Baileigh, Zier and Emorie; and four great-grandchildren, Brian, Jacob, Gabby and Nolan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Smith and Opal Leach, a sister, Betty Pearce, two brothers, Ralph and Charles Smith and a step-brother, Wesley Leach.
Funeral Services for Carl L. "Gabby" Smith, 72, of Carmi will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 30, 2015 at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. Burial will be in Powell Cemetery in Norris City. Friends may call on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City.
