Carl J. Crayne, 90, of Norris City passed away at 6:55 p.m., Friday, November 24, 2017 at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi. He was born in Ridgway, IL on November 11, 1927 the son of Carlos and Irene (Smith) Crayne. Carl married Aileen Sauls on August 31, 1927 and she preceded him in death on July 3, 2015. Carl served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 526th Panel Bridge Transportation Company. He worked as a Union Steel Worker at Youngstown Sheet and Tube in East Chicago, IN.
Carl is survived by two daughters, Glenda Christine (Donald) Sutherland of Evans, GA and Carol Lynn (Bobby) Roy of New Haven; four grandchildren, Shawn Sutherland, Erin (Bryan) Voshell, Christopher (Charice) deVidal and Angela (Don) Canton; six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Garrett and Ella Voshell and Dominic, John and Shiloh deVidal; a sister, Virginia Fillingim; half-sister, Debbie Crayne; and a half-brother, Jack Crayne.
He was preceded in death by parents, wife, Aileen; a sister, Margie Crayne Sewell; a brother, Charles Crayne; three half-brothers, Orval, Joe and Douglas Crayne; and two great-grandchildren, Abryana and Dylan Voshell.
Funeral services for Carl J. Crayne, 90, of Norris City will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. Burial will be in Palestine #2 Cemetery in Omaha with full military rites by the Carmi American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. Memorial contributions may be made in Carl's memory to Wabash Christian Village- Chapel or Disabled American Veterans and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City.
